IPMA – Global Gold Awards Merida Mexico: Change Project of the Year (GC2018 – Queensland Police Service Commonwealth Games – Operation Sentinel Project)
It was with great excitement that the Queensland Police Service (QPS); a client that P2E have worked closely with for over a decade, were successfully shortlisted as finalists in the 2019 International Project Management Associations Global Project of the Year in the ‘Change management / product development / marketing’ category for Small-/Medium-sized projects. P2E Director Todd Hunt attended the event in Mexico with Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski where final judging for the award involved a Q&A presentation session before an international panel of project management experts, highlighting the extraordinary collaborative effort across government and public agencies in delivering GC2018. The QPS presentation was supported by an excellent video produced by Police Media – view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXDAGBt5zYU
The QPS also set-up a Project Information Display for attendees of the Global Congress to visit and discuss the projects challenges and complexities. The QPS were announced as the Gold Award winners at the Gala Awards night.
IPMA judges assessed and evaluated the Operation Sentinel Project using the IPMA Project Excellence Model criteria as reference. On the basis of results achieved, the QPS was presented the 2019 Gold Project Excellence Award in the ‘Change management / product development / marketing’ category for Small-/Medium-sized projects. The judging panel identified project management excellence in approach and results within the areas of :
- Sustainability
- Impact on the environment
- Customer satisfaction, and
- Leadership approach in caring for project stakeholders
Standout areas were the complex management of various stakeholder groups as well as the incorporation and creation of lessons learnt. There is evidence that the project exerted considerable effort in collecting and incorporating lessons learnt from previous events in their own planning. The project achieved a safe, secure and successful Games while ensuring an excellent athlete, spectator and visitor focused experience that enhanced the reputation of the Commonwealth Games, the Gold Coast and Queensland (QPS services focus). QPS also continued delivery to all regions of all standard QPS delivery services, supported by increased and on-demand cross region and cross-district collaboration, asset and personnel sharing, including the Gold Coast Police District.
